Gift Aid: A new way of supporting charitable organisations

New legislation effective since 6th April 2000 simplifies the procedure by which charitable organisations such as the Art Society can reclaim tax on membership subscriptions or donations. It is simpler for members, and simpler and very advantageous for the Society, since we can now reclaim tax on all subscriptions and donations and not just covenants, which are now phased out.

You just need to fill in the Gift Aid form and send it back to me with your subscription, and that’s it. There is no longer any need to promise payments for a minimum of four years, you no longer require a witness to your signature, and there is no further tax form to be completed in the first year of a Gift Aid declaration as there was with the Covenant. It would be most helpful if you would instruct your bank to pay your subscription by standing order or direct debit, but that’s all you now need to do in addition to filling up the form and returning it to me.
